Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions about everything from the history of KPForum.net, to downloading things, to the great forum crash of '04. If you can't find the answer to your question, and it is seriously bothering you that much, send me an email, PM or make a thread in the forums and I'll get it sorted out ASAP. Or not. Question: How did KPForum get started? (I ask myself this all the time) Answer: In 1999, PC Gamer released a demo CD with their magazine, as usual. This demo had a game called "Kingpin: Life of Crime". I didn't get around to installing it until the beginning of 2000 (ok, so I'm a packrat On the other hand, Pinky and Timba started playing nonstop. They went from NedKelly to broncoman 74 in no time at all. They joined a clan (DK, Designer Killers, i forgot what pinky was, but Timbalin aka Timberland is how that got started). During all of this commotion, I would watch these guys play and be like "fuck man this looks good". I finally got started playing a lot in 2002, and reached my pinnacle the next day. While I would watch Pinky play, a clan called F^ (fallen angels) tried to recruit him a time or two. He declined, and said he didn't want to be in a clan at the moment. Later, the same clan would badmouth him when I would play, and he would be AFK. I asked one guy (Pimp, AKA Suge) why they did this and he denied asking Pinky into the clan, and I ended up on their so called "bad side". Every game would be filled with mudslinging toward me, or me slinging mud toward them. Eventually, I realized the power of the internet, and created a website called Kingpin: News and Rumors. This aggrivated and caught F^ Clan by surprise. They were speechless and had no way to combat this. Due to their forums being heavily censored and posts being edited, no one in the every-shrinking Kingpin community felt that their website held any weight. But this new webpage was filled with humor, no forums, and wasn't associated with any clans. Various features popped up (separated at birth, Kingpin awards 2003, daily poll and joke) and the website took off. We added a forum in 2003, and it was hosted on InvisionFree. We were located on server 2 (now they are like up to server 16 or something) and there was a huge crash on server 2. We just started, and grew really fast, then this occured. This was the first server crash, and definately NOT the last. Our forum grew hugely, until around the beginning of december. We had been shut down due to a TOS violation (email inquiries as to which TOS violation came back as "all of them"). KPForum (formerly known as Filth of Kingpin) was now dead. We started up another forum since we used the redirection of http://www.kpforum.tk, and all of the core members pooled together and raised money for a domain, and one year of hosting. We were now known as KPForum.Net. I installed the forum software, had everyone re-register and we blew up again. We were ready to go on December 20, 2004. On October 11, 2005 we had our second and last great forum crash. Updating the forum software kept creating errors, so i decided to use a fresh install with the same sql database, just to see if it would work. I forgot to change the sql table prefix and I over wrote the old info. Although, you'll find that a couple of guys like to take credit for "taking down KPForum" or "Shutting down KPForum", as I've heard a million times. It was my fault plain and simple. Now, in the beginning of 2006, we have slightly focused away from the diminished Kingpin community and tried to expand over everything that we are interested in. 1980's era entertainment, music, movie clips, classic console gaming, and humor. A handful of the core members still play Kingpin, because if you ask, nothing will ever be the same as Kingpin. It had elements that are un-reproducable in games today. That's the story of KPForum.net. Just a group of buddies who have a similar sense of humor. Long story short, I made this website to make fun of F^, and to single out Gensouljah's lies in the Kingpin gaming community. It grew, and now we welcome new members from all walks of life and corners of the internet world. ---------- Question: Why is it when I try to download, I get this message: "The error returned was: Sorry, the link that brought you to this page seems to be out of date or broken." or some other similar message? Answer: This is because first, you need to REGISTER for a new account, and then make a few posts. Some of our larger downloads have a minimum post access restriction of 15 posts (some of our medium sized downloads have less restriction, one post downloading). Make a post or 2, and refresh the forum index to see if any new forums appear. If they appear, you can access them. YOU MUST REGISTER AND POST to gain access to certain areas. This is to prevent a lot of leeching people who just look for free shit. If you contribute to the community, then you'll gain access to various areas, such as the 18+, music exchange, and download areas. ---------- Question: Why bother to pay for a subscription to the member's section? Answer: Honestly, Prior to our '05 crash, our members section was a lot more packed. After the crash, things got slow. I would recommend NOT buying a subscription at the present moment, until the member section is a lot more active. UPDATE: Our member department is in the process of growing to around 10 GB of content. So possibly within a few weeks/months it will be worth it again. Also note, a few people occasionally get free access to this department on a trial basis for posting great content at times. So, if you contribute good stuff, you'll get in for free. ---------- Question: Who are the F^ that you guys always talk about? Answer: F^, or Fallen Angels, is a clan in the ever-shrinking Kingpin community. It was created after most of the old legendary Kingpin players left the scene. It was created due to a few hurt feelings, and an over-inflated ego of a player who was slightly above average, at best. This clan refused to have clan matches, did not want to participate in a tournament, and will not acknowledge any losses. They won a match or 2, and this has been the basis of their "undefeatableness". They recruit some of the most awkward players into their clan, and pump them up to be the best, most elite gamers around. Their recruits are usually kicked out players of other clans, and players who lack the ability to be consistant. A few of their top-rated members have been exposed as see-through hack users, and cheaters. Their leader, Gensouljah, claims he lives the life of a high-rolling gangster street thug from the Kingpin game. He says he makes thousands of dollars a day, and spends it in the same fashion. He kills people nightly, and makes drug deals by the kilo. Unfortunately, throughout all of this money spending, drug trafficking, gun toting, drive by-ing, and his all night Kingpin playing, they could not afford a 10 dollar domain registration. Nor could they afford paid hosting. Only through the graces of Gensouljah's faithful lapdog, Pimp, can they afford a "no advertisement" forum. ---------- Question: What exactly is this webpage about? Answer: We used to focus solely on a PC game, Kingpin: Life of Crime, but now we focus on pretty much everything. A few of the things we specialize in are: Creating original forum emoticons of various celebrities and our forum users, 1980's washed-up entertainers, Celebrity Deaths, and general dry humor. We don't really have too many rules in our main forums, so feel free to join in a degenerating talk about anything. ---------- Question: I need help with Answer: Most Likey, yes. We have a couple of Dreamcast professionals on hand, and a tech nerd or 3 so most of your questions should be able to be answered. Please note though, don't look like an idiot when you do this. ---------- Question: Do you do requests for downloads? Answer: Yes, if we can find it, we can host it. Anything from TV shows, anime, ANY TYPE of music, games, files, programs, pictures, etc. Just post what you need and someone will get it for you. ---------- Question: How do I enter a contest? Answer: Whenever one is up, just follow this link, and it will tell you the rules/regulations/details on the contest. You must be a registered member to join the contest, though. ---------- Question: Can I get a KPForum.net E-mail? Answer: No. Unless you are a core member, or start making around a million posts and we love you. ---------- Question: Where did the anime go? Answer: On March 20, 2006, I decided to remove the anime department. This was a huge draw for a lot of people, but rarely did anyone post anything, or even a thanks or 2. Only around 5 people posted and out of those 5, 2 stayed around. For those members, I will scour the internet for anime if they request it. But it was just wasting our resources without much gain in return. There is a slight possibility of a return, but as of now, a large-scale anime section does not fit in with our objectives ---------- Question: I have a question that is not covered by this weak FAQ, how do I submit it? Answer: Use the "contact us" link on your left. ---------- |
